Information
The young Palestinian woman, Sawsan Muhammad Owais, succeeded in achieving a qualitative achievement at the level of Palestine in agricultural biotechnology.
Owais was able to isolate two new, unknown species of sulfate-reducing bacteria, in addition to two previously recorded species, as part of her thesis to obtain a master’s degree in the agricultural biotechnology program from Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie.
Owais’ thesis was titled “Assessment of Sulphate Reduction Bacteria in lison soil and Brackish water, case study from lower Jordan Valley,” and it was implemented in the northern Dead Sea region.
This is the first achievement of its kind in Palestine regarding the isolation of these bacteria, which are considered rare, especially in light of Israeli control over natural water resources in Palestine.
