Khamis Zaquot, born on December 6, 1965, in the Gaza Strip, is a remarkable Palestinian Paralympic athlete. Despite facing challenges after a 1992 work-related injury that left him using a wheelchair, Zaquot embarked on an inspiring sports career.
In his personal life, Khamis Zaquot is a father of nine children. Following his injury, he began his sports journey, initially focusing on swimming and basketball, where he eventually became the captain of the Palestinian team. Over time, he transitioned to athletics and trained in a park in the city of Gaza.
Zaquot made significant achievements in international competitions. In the 1998 world championship, he secured second place in discus throwing, fourth in javelin throwing, and fifth in shot put. He also participated in Asian competitions.
One of the highlights of Khamis Zaquot's career was his participation in the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London, where he proudly carried the flag for the Palestinian delegation. He qualified for the Games in Doha and went on to win the shot put event with a throw of 10.77 meters, setting an Asian record of 11.34 meters. Prior to the London Games, he had already established a new world record in Paralympic weightlifting during qualifying events in Dubai, earning five gold medals.
