Consolidated Engineering Company was established in Beirut in 1959 as a general partnership between Mounir ElKhatib and other partners. In March 1959, the company was registered as Consolidated Engineering Company Mounir ElKhatib andPartners. On February, 1964, Dr. Zuheir Alami joined Mounir ElKhatib as his sole partner, thus establishing the present firm “Consolidated Engineering Company – Khatib & Alami”. K&A started its consulting services in Lebanon, successfully extending the areas of its professional activities to the Arab countries. By 1980, K&A operates from Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kingdom of Bahrain, and by 1990, we had expanded our region of operations to include all the Gulf and Arab countries. Over the period between 2005 and 2008, Kuwait, Iraq, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and USA and to Libya, Gabon and Ethiopia in 2012 were added to the countries we operate in, and K&A's team expanded to over 4,000 architects, engineers, technicians and administrators. Always at the forefront of world trends, K&A established its own computer center back in 1979 and cycled its engineers in a specialized training program in software development and programming as well as in the utilization of interactive programs for all its accounting and engineering calculations. All the departments are connected via terminals to the in-house central computer. In 1988, a new field was brought about in K&A to supplement the firm's engineering services. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division was established to enhance technological capabilities and to enable the company's engineering capabilities. GIS was seen back then by many as a “specialty”; at K&A, the technology was the vision catalyst, and today it is incorporated in all engineering, planning and architectural services that the firm provides. To carry out certain specialized projects, and for the purpose of continuously developing the engineers and architects by exposing them to the most advanced techniques in developed countries, K&A cooperated and entered into joint ventures with some international firms. Since 1984, K&A has been continuously ranked among the top 100 International design firms as published by the Engineering News Record (ENR).
