Hajj Hussam al-Hajjawi is a prominent figure in Nablus's economy and a respected public figure who has earned the esteem of a wide segment of the city's population. He hails from a well-established and renowned family and is one of the owners of the famous al-Hajjawi Printing Press, which has enriched the national economy for nearly 90 years. Born in Nablus in 1945, he heads the Abdul Rahman Hajjawi & Sons Company/al-Nasr Commercial Printing Press and its affiliated bookstores. He began practicing economic work with his late father, Abdul Rahman Hijjawi, in his own company, Abdul Rahman Hijjawi & Sons Company - Al-Nasr Commercial Printing Press and Library, in 1960. It was founded in 1935 and was the first and pioneer in its field of work in printing and stationery in Palestine.
After the passing of the late Abdul Rahman Hijjawi in 1965, he took over the responsibility of economic work.

He holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company.
In 1992, he was elected as a member of the board of directors of the Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and was appointed as its secretary.
Mr. Hussam Hijjawi held several positions in Palestinian private sector institutions, including Chairman of the Palestinian Banking Corporation, one of the founders and Chairman of the Paper Industries Union (formerly), a founding member of the Palestinian Trade Center (PalTrade), a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Employment and Social Protection Fund, and one of the founders and a member of the Board of Directors of the General Union of Palestinian Industries (formerly).
He participated in several workshops on preparing Palestinian economic laws, including the Palestinian Labor Law, the draft Industry Law, and the draft law on Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture. He was among the first to be interested in preparing the draft Palestinian Standards and Metrology Law, and one of the pioneers of the idea of establishing the Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution.
Out of a sense of social responsibility, he became involved in working within many institutions, committees and charities, where he served as Secretary of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society for more than 25 years, Secretary of the Solidarity Charity Association for more than 25 years, and as one of the founders of the Friends of the Blind Palestinian Association, and one of the founders of the Friends of the Patient Association.
Member of the national team and representative of the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce for developing the Palestinian Ministry of Labor's strategy.
Member of the Economic Committee for the Strategic Plan of Nablus Governorate.
He was honored by the Arab Labor Organization as a pioneer of Arab labor in 2010.
In 2011, he was elected as a member of the Chamber's Board of Directors, and was elected as its Vice President.
Hussam Hijjawi assumed the presidency of the Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry following the 754th session of the Chamber's Board of Directors. This came in implementation of the agreement signed after the Chamber's elections in 2011, which the Board unanimously ratified at the aforementioned session, allowing Hijjawi to assume the presidency and Omar Hashem to become the Chamber's vice president, effective July 21, 2013.
