Information
Walid Khaled Al-Husari was born in the city of Al-Majdal in the occupied Gaza Strip on June 21, 1948. He is married and has three sons and a daughter. He studied primary school at Al-Imam Al-Shafi'i and Al-Zaytoun Preparatory Schools, and secondary school at the Teachers' Institute in Gaza, obtaining his high school diploma in the commercial branch in 1967. He received a diploma in commerce from the Vocational Training Center in Qalandia/Jerusalem in 1970. He worked in the trade sector and became the acting head of the Gaza Chamber of Commerce in 2013. He assumed the position of President of the Gaza Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Palestine since 2014. During this time, he was active in improving the situation of merchants and facilitating their affairs with the Ministry of Economy, especially regarding taxes and debt relief for those in debt. He also participated in the opening of economic projects and conferences in the Gaza Strip, established a twinning agreement between the Gaza Chamber of Commerce and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, and participated in local and Arab conferences in Amman and Cairo, as well as international conferences concerned with economics.
Al-Hasri was active through the Chamber of Commerce in providing internal and external scholarships for university students. He also contributed during the Corona pandemic to supplying several quarantine centers with the necessary supplies for those quarantined. He also became involved in the institutional field, as he became Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the University of Gaza in 2022, Honorary President of the Association of Arab Poets and Intellectuals, Member of the General Assembly of the Cancer Patients Association, and Head of Foreign and International Affairs in it.
Al-Husari believes that division is the reason for the loss and dispersal of the Palestinian people, and that solidarity and national unity are the basis of the national liberation process. He believes that all types of resistance, whether peaceful or armed, are required to confront the occupier, with his belief that armed resistance is more successful because of the occupation’s brutality and its oppression of the Palestinian people. He hopes for complete liberation, the return of refugees to their lands, and the establishment of a free Palestinian state, but he believes that in light of the bitter reality that the Palestinian people are living in, the two-state solution can be a preliminary solution.
