Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh (Abu Ikrimah; born in 1907 in Tulkarm - died on March 10, 1989 in Tulkarm) is a Palestinian poet, writer, writer and politician. The Palestinian national movement, and the men of the Palestinian revolution.

 

his biography

Muhammad Ali Saleh Abdullah Tayeh “Abu Ikrimah” was born in 1907AD/1325AH in the city of Tulkarm and grew up there. He finished his studies in the schools of his city of Tulkarm, where he studied at the Al-Fadhili School in the city, then joined the Islamic College in Jerusalem, from which he graduated in 1927.

 

During his studies, he founded the “Palestinian Student Association” in 1925, which was the first nucleus of the Palestinian Students Union, and was elected its president. He entered the press and worked as editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Sada Al-Arab” published in eastern Jordan until it was stopped in 1928 by a decision of Prince Abdullah bin Al-Hussein. He then moved to the city of Haifa and founded Al-Istiqlal School there in 1932, and worked as an editor in the “Islamic University” newspaper.

 

He was elected Vice-President of the First Arab Student Conference, which was held in Jaffa in 1929, then was elected President of the Union during the second conference held in Acre in 1930. Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh was a founding member of the Palestinian Independence Party, and he was one of the leaders of the 1936 revolution, so he was arrested and sentenced to death, Then the sentence was commuted and he spent six years in Al-Mazraa prison in Acre. After his release from prison, the British authorities placed him under house arrest in his hometown of Tulkarm, and then deported him to Gaza and from there to the Negev.

 

He had a strong relationship with Ahmed Al-Shugairi, Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam, Abdul Karim Al-Karmi, Ibrahim Toukan, Abdul Rahim Al-Haj Muhammad, Abdul Rahim Mahmoud, Farhan Al-Saadi, Akram Zuaiter, and others.

 

He established the first Palestinian workers’ association in Tulkarm in 1943 and was elected its president. He was also elected a member of the first Palestinian National Council held in Gaza in 1948, and assumed the task of forming and equipping national committees, as he was the head of the national committees in the Arab Higher Authority headed by Haj Amin al-Husseini.

 

Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh was appointed Minister of Education in the All-Palestine Government in 1948, but the government did not last long. In the fifties of the century, he was elected a member of the Tulkarm municipal council more than once, and was appointed director of the Noureddine Zangi School in the city until he was retired in 1971.

In 1925, Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh received the poet Khalil Mutran in the city of Tulkarm, welcoming him, saying: “It is obligatory on me to greet the greats, oh poet of the two countries and poets.”

 

His writings

Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh wrote many books, and wrote patriotic and revolutionary poems, which were published at the time in newspapers and magazines. He also wrote articles that he signed under the name “Badawi Al-Wadi”. Some of his most notable books are:

Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh died in his hometown of Tulkarm on March 10, 1989 AD / 3 Shaban 1409 AH and was buried in the city.

On November 18, 2020, Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh was awarded the “Departed Creative Poet and Writer Award” from the Palestine Liberation Organization and the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Writers.
