Abdel Nasser Muhammad Ali Saleh (Abu Khaled; October 12, 1957 -) is a Palestinian poet, writer, and politician, born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm. He is considered one of the most prominent poets in Palestine, and one of the prominent members of the Fatah movement. He held the position of Deputy Palestinian Minister of Culture, a member of the Palestinian National Council in the Palestine Liberation Organization, and one of the founders of the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Writers. He is nicknamed the "Poet of Freedom", as he wrote a large number of his poetry books inside Israeli prisons, and he has a wide Arab presence.

 

His upbringing and life

Abdel Nasser Muhammad Ali Saleh was born in the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank on October 12, 1957. He received his primary, preparatory and secondary education in the schools of his city of Tulkarm, and completed high school at the prestigious Al-Fadhilia school in Tulkarm. The Israeli authorities arrested him several times, and he spent his time moving between Tulkarm prison and a number of prisons. His father is the poet and politician Muhammad Ali Al-Saleh.

Deputy Palestinian Minister of Culture from April 26, 2015 until August 1, 2018, commissioned by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Former Director General of the Palestinian Ministry of Culture.

Member of the Palestinian National Council in the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Member of the Board of Trustees of Palestine Technical University (Khadouri) in Tulkarm from March 5, 2020 until now, by a decision issued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Member of the Sixth Congress of the Fatah Movement.

Vice-President of the Palestinian Writers Union from 1987 to 2005.

He participated in poetry and cultural symposia in a number of countries, including Bahrain, Turkey, Syria, Algeria, and Yemen.

"The Knight Who Was Killed Before the Fencing", in 1980, was written by the poet in 1977 inside Tulkarm Prison.

His most prominent poems

“Letters from the Cell…to my Mother.” This poem is studied in the Arabic language book on the Palestinian curriculum, and was written by the poet in Tulkarm prison.

“In the beginning was the stone,” and he wrote it inside Israeli prisons, and it talks about the suffering and steadfastness of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli cells.

The Palestinian writer Ziad Odeh wrote a book entitled “The Poet of Freedom Abdel Nasser Saleh,” in which Ziyad Odeh examined the life and poetry of the poet Abdel Nasser. This book was published in the Jordanian capital, Amman, in 2013.
