Information

Zaki Darwish (born 1945 AD) is a Palestinian writer and poet, and a full brother of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.

his life

He was born in 1945 AD in the village of Al-Birwa, a Palestinian village located in the Galilee near the coast of Acre. His family owned land there. The family left with the Palestinian refugees in 1948 to Lebanon, then returned in 1949 after signing the armistice agreements, to find the village destroyed and the settlement of “Ahihud” built on its lands. He took refuge with his family in nearby Kfar Yasif.

His literary works

His first collection of short stories (The Bridge and the Flood) was published in 1976 AD by Dar Al-Aswar Al-Akkawi. It met with a cheerful presence among readers because it is a awaited group after Zaki Darwish published some of her stories in the newspaper (Al-Ittihad), which was published in Haifa. Then his second short story collection (The Man Who Killed the World) was published in 1978 AD by Dar Al-Aswar itself, and this collection met with a resounding presence inside the Palestinian homeland, to the extent that it was said that no Palestinian house was devoid of this collection.

His novel (Ahmed Mahmoud and the others) had an important presence because it talked about the events of the first Palestinian intifada (1978), and the national publication of the boys and children of Palestine who formed a new mirror of the Palestinian struggle. The Palestinian struggle, which promoted that the senior Palestinians claiming Palestine died, and that the rising generations had forgotten Palestine. Zaki Darwish's novel (Ahmed Mahmoud and the others) is a new face. A bright spot for the Palestinian struggle and a strong impulse for the culture of resistance, and a valiant confrontation to the culture of erasure and fragmentation of the Palestinian memory that the Palestinians faced.

Today, he has more than seven short story collections, more than one play, and more than one novel. He is a university graduate with a high degree in Arabic. He has taught in secondary schools, institutes and universities. He was an active and present writer in cultural magazines known to Palestinian cities, such as: Al-Jadeed, Al-Ghad, and Al-Ittihad newspaper, in addition to his presence in some cultural supplements known to the cities of Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Ramallah.
