career path
Salwa Al-Banna began her professional career in the field of journalism, then at some point went into the field of writing, publishing and authoring. She published a number of books and novels, perhaps the most prominent of which was the novel A Bride Beyond the River, which was published in Beirut in 1972, as well as the novel “The Coming from Distances” which was also published in Beirut in 1977. In addition to the novel “Rain in a Warm Morning” (1979), and The Other Side, which is a collection of short stories that Al-Banna published in a number of Jordanian newspapers and then reprinted in Beirut in 1974. The writer has other books issued successively, namely Al-Amoura, Bride of the Night, which is also a novel published in the Lebanese capital Beirut in 1986. And His Excellency’s Shoes, the collection of stories that were published in 2010, as well as the novel A Woman Out of Time, which was published the following year.
The most famous work of the Palestinian writer was the novel “Sit al-Hassan”, which differed in its style of narrative narrative, theatrical text, and to some extent poetry. Salwa said in this novel that she did not intend to renew, but the idea was to deviate from the norm, which she did and succeeded in, as you can see, when she crossed the red lines that she was setting for herself while writing. Salwa embodied in her novel “Sit al-Hassan on its Last Night” the fierce attack that the Levant was subjected to, with the aim of destroying and fragmenting it, changing its identity and its cultural components, and completely disappearing Palestine from its map, as she says. In this novel, Salwa al-Bunni meant the state of Palestine by the phrase “The Rose of Sham”.
Salwa embodied in the novel “Sit al-Hassan” the struggle between good and evil, between ugliness and beauty, as she confirmed in a later interview with an electronic newspaper. And places and names to emphasize the identity of the land and its Arabism. By the word “star” in the novel, Salwa meant Palestine, and its lovers are those who struggle with the gun, thought and word to liberate it. In this novel, I went through all the forms of conspiracy against the Palestinian cause, up to the wars, fighting and destruction that the scene has reached today.
