Information
Fayek Wafa Mar’i is a Palestinian engineer and one of the distinguished fifth-year architecture students at the Faculty of Engineering at Birzeit University. He developed a strong interest in adapting private and public buildings to meet the needs of people with mobility disabilities, believing in their right to a natural life unhindered by architectural barriers and poorly designed structures.
University of California, Berkeley announced that the Palestinian student Fayek Wafa Mar’i won second place in the 15th edition of its annual Architecture Competition, which has been organized by the university since 1998. His project focused on inventing a movable door threshold that enables wheelchair users to enter and exit through any doorway with ease, unlike the fixed thresholds commonly found in buildings.
In addition to this innovation, he has developed several other creative solutions aimed at facilitating movement for individuals with various physical disabilities.
