Information
Bilal Abdullah is a Danish poet and writer of Palestinian origin from the village of Al-Damun, near Jenin. He was born in Lebanon and later moved with his family to Denmark.
Bilal studied theatrical directing and worked at the Aarhus Theater in Denmark. He excelled in writing modern poetry, distinguished by his use of the Palestinian spoken dialect—a rarity, as most contemporary poets write either in classical Arabic or in Egyptian or Lebanese dialects. His unique style helped preserve the authentic Palestinian voice in modern literature and music, filling a gap that had hindered the development of a local Palestinian song tradition.
He won first place in the Amateur Singing Competition in 1994 and received the Best Playwright Award for his work on the Palestinian cause. Bilal Abdullah also starred in the acclaimed film “Bye Bye Beirut,” known for its documentary and cultural significance.
