Jalal Al-Rifai (1946-2012) was a Jordanian / Palestinian visual artist and cartoonist born in the village of Kafr Ein near Ramallah in the West Bank . He worked for the Jordanian newspaper Al-Dustour until his death. He is considered one of the pioneers of cartooning in Jordan, having begun his career in 1971.
His professional life
Al-Rifai received his high school diploma from Ramallah Secondary School in Ramallah in the 1963-1964 academic year. He completed a course in journalistic production in 1971 in London . He then studied animation for a year (1976-1977) in London. He worked as a calligrapher and illustrator for the Jordanian newspaper Al-Dustour (1967-1974). He also worked as an art supervisor for a number of Arabic magazines and newspapers in London. From 1980 until 1990, he worked as the director of the art department at Al-Bayan Press Foundation in Dubai. He returned to work as a cartoonist for the Jordanian newspaper Al-Dustour from the beginning of 1990 until his death in 2012.
