Information

Nahil Bishara (1919-1997) was a Palestinian artist born in Jerusalem . She studied art at the Bezalel College of Art between 1942 and 1944, then moved to Chicago to study interior design , in addition to sculpture in Italy .

Her artistic style

Bishara is one of the first Palestinian artists to demonstrate their connection to Jerusalem and their interest in Palestinian folklore and antiquities. She documented Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik's palace in Jericho , the Palestinian folk dabke , Bedouin tents , the harvest season , the role of women in work, and Palestinian nature, with a special focus on photographing the streets of Jerusalem.  Like other contemporary artists, her works focused on issues of Palestinian heritage, history, and nature. This trend was in line with the period when art became a profession for Palestinian artists with the increasing influx of tourists and pilgrims to the city of Jerusalem.

Collectibles

Many institutions own her works, such as the Dar El-Nimer Foundation in Beirut , the Mazen Copti Collection in Jerusalem, and the Birzeit Museum .
