Information

Mahasen Al-Khatib ( October 10 , 1992 – October 18 , 2024 ) was a Palestinian visual artist and graphic designer from Jabalia Camp . Mahasen was one of the most prominent activists in Gaza during the Palestinian-Israeli war . She was active on social media to highlight the suffering of the residents of the northern Gaza Strip. She was killed during the Israeli response to Operation "Noah's Flood".

Her career

Two weeks before October 7 , Mahasen invested everything she owned to set up her own art studio. However, the studio was destroyed in the war. She also offered free online courses for other Palestinians who aspired to advance in artistic creation.  She also contributed to conveying powerful narratives related to the reality of war through social media. As Israeli authorities suppressed almost all internet connections in Gaza, she often relied on social media, such as Instagram , to disseminate her artistic output. She also collaborated with numerous Arab agents and international institutions.
Her latest work, titled " Tell Me How It Feels When You See Someone Burn," commemorates Shaaban Al-Dalo, the 19-year-old who burned to death in the Israeli bombing of Al-Aqsa Hospital days earlier.  She died shortly after being injured in an Israeli bombing of her home. The Lucca Comics and Games Festival posthumously awarded her a special mention.
In the Basque Country , multiple unions, including the Spanish Workers' Union, the Workers' Union, the General Workers' Union , and the Basque Workers' Union , called meetings in Pamplona , Donostia , Bilbao , and Vitoria-Gasteiz to denounce her cover, pay tribute to her, and demand an end to the Palestinian genocide . Student associations also organized rallies at Basque educational and academic institutions. Al-Khatib collaborated with the pro-Palestinian association Guernica Palestine.
