Information

Fouad Ighbaria (1981-) is a Palestinian visual artist born in the village of Musmus near Umm al-Fahm . He obtained a BA from Bezalel College in Jerusalem in 2004 and an MA from the University of Haifa in 2014. He is considered one of the most active artists of his generation and is distinguished by his depiction of the suffering of the Palestinians from the 1948 Arabs inside Israel . He has published a book entitled Maps of Memory, which was published in three languages: Arabic, English, and Hebrew.

Artistic style

Fouad Ighbaria's artistic methods are diverse, as he uses charcoal, oil paints, duplex paper, wood, acrylic, and lithography. In his artwork, he depicts the past, childhood, and rural life, focusing on the features of the village of Musmus . In addition, through his artwork, he evokes Palestinian identity, cause, and memory.  Ighbaria sees the prickly pear plant as resembling the Palestinian relationship with the occupied interior, with the land, the environment, and steadfastness. It is a symbol of survival. Even in deserted places and destroyed villages, it remains in the landscape like a sign, confirming its presence and standing above the village like a guard.
