Information
Born in Kuwait in 1981, he currently resides in Ramallah. He uses various artistic techniques, including paintings, films, digital media, and comics, as tools to explore and engage with the Palestinian political and social landscape. His work focuses on creating and utilizing icons of the Palestinian revolution.
Several collections hold Shomali's works, including the British Museum, the Museum of Instruments of Absence, Kuwait, Birzeit University Museum, Palestine, and the A. M. Qattan Foundation, Palestine, in addition to the private collections of Dr. Ramzi Dalloul, Rana Sadek, Hashem Shawwa, Rami Nimr, and George Al-Ama.
Amer Shomali was also a co-director of the animated documentary "The Wanted 18," which premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The film won Best Documentary Feature at the Abu Dhabi, Carthage, Traverse City, and Al Jazeera Film Festivals, and was nominated for the 88th Academy Awards in the Documentary and Foreign Language categories.
