Information
Wafa Hourani (1979-) is a Palestinian visual artist, born in the city of Hebron . His family was displaced in 1948 from Al-Masmiya . He lived and worked between Palestine and Bahrain.
He graduated from the School of Art and Cinema in Tunisia, and first produced a number of films before turning in 2006 to the visual arts, which are more capable of expressing the Palestinian cause.
Using photography and sculpture, the artist creates contexts that express a reality in which the past and the present are essentially linked, deeply influenced by the Arab-Palestinian conflict and the fate of the Middle East. From here, he works to develop his work, which reveals the social, political and economic conditions of life in Palestine.
His artistic style
He was greatly influenced by the Palestinian conflict, trying to be influenced by the economic and social conditions experienced by the Palestinian people. He used his abilities in photography, drawing and films, and gathered his energy to convey his message as a Palestinian artist about what the Palestinian faces in his daily life, where he focused on the right to asylum , wars , the first intifada of 1987, the camp, and what the residents of the Palestinian camps that were established after the Nakba of 1948 suffer, through the Qalandia series (2006-2009), which is considered an integral part of the Photo Life project and the Qalandia 2047 project, as well as the Six-Day War in the Qalandia 2067 project, and the first intifada in the Qalandia 2087 project.
The Cities of the Future project was displayed at the Thessaloniki Biennale in 2007, at the Saatchi Gallery in London, the Istanbul Biennale, and the Second Confusion in Abu Dhabi in 2009.
