Fayez Al-Sarsawi (1961-) is a Palestinian artist born in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in the Gaza Strip . He completed his education there and then joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul in 1981, specializing in the field of plastic arts . His work, which he produced in the wake of the first Intifada, was a starting point and creativity parallel to the uprising event, which for him was an important stage in his production and in introducing the public to the nature of his work. In addition to his sculptural works, he was interested in drawing and design, and he has various contributions in writing in the literary and artistic fields and participating in seminars, lectures, and specialized conferences.
His career
Fayez Al-Sarsawi worked as an art teacher in UNRWA schools for two years, then moved to work at the Teachers Institute in Al-Tira in the Ramallah Governorate. In 1992, he contributed to establishing the Fine Arts Program at the Young Men's Christian Association in Gaza, and contributed to issuing the Ishtar Quarterly Magazine for Culture and Arts. He was a member of the editorial board of the Cultural Notebooks Magazine issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture . He held the position of Director General in the Ministry of Culture in the Gaza Strip from 1994 to 2021, after which he moved to hold the position of Dean of Academic Affairs at Dar Al-Kalima University in Gaza. He has two research papers on documenting the progress of the plastic arts movement in the Gaza Strip.
His artistic life
Fayez Al-Sarsawi worked in contemporary sculpture using modern tools and materials to express various aesthetic, intellectual and philosophical issues, and worked in the art of cinematic effects until he became a specialist in the field. He worked on blending visual and literary works. Al-Sarsawi participated in many local exhibitions and some international exhibitions, most notably: (Peace for the World Exhibition in 1992, Maal Hal Exhibition in 2004, and Anqa Al-Ramad Exhibition in collaboration with Fathi Ghaben , Tahani Sakik, Muhammad Muslim, and Iyad Sabbah in 2015. He completed many murals and memorials, including what is located in the YMCA Garden in Gaza, the Freedom Monument in the Peace Garden in the village of Kawkab Abu Al-Hija in the city of Haifa, the Friendship Monument located in the International Garden in the People's Republic of China , and the Ray of Knowledge Monument at the entrance to Al-Aqsa University in Gaza.
