Muhammad Bishnak ( 1934 – May 26 , 2017 ) is a Palestinian visual artist .  He is considered one of the symbols of the visual arts movement in Palestine , Jordan and Kuwait .  He is known for his prolific artistic production .  He has won a number of awards. 

His biography

Muhammad Bishnak was born in the village of Sheikh in the Haifa district in 1934.  After the Nakba of 1948 , he moved to the West Bank and joined the Khadouri Institute in the city of Tulkarm , where he obtained a diploma in “educational rehabilitation.” 

He traveled to Kuwait in 1954 , where he worked as a teacher in a number of schools there. In 1956, he held his first exhibition, which was the first art exhibition to be held in Kuwait .  He then held another exhibition in 1958.  In 1960 , he contributed to the establishment of the Free Atelier Foundation in Kuwait , affiliated with the Kuwaiti Education Department. In 1990, he moved to live from Kuwait to the Jordanian capital, Amman . 

His death

Muhammad Bushnaq died in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on May 26 , 2017, at the age of 83.

Former President of the Jordanian Fine Artists Association Ghazi Inaim said about Muhammad Bishnak: “He is one of the few Arab artists who combined culture and conscious artistic thought, and has a long artistic history full of works that represent a special case in the Arab sculpture movement. He is among those who have influenced the Jordanian and Kuwaiti fine arts scenes with many works that contributed to laying the first bricks in them.” 

Syrian art critic Rateb Ghouthani said: “The artist Muhammad Bishnak has found a unique style, in which he avoided repeating the references of other creatives, avoiding falling into the chaos of hybrid forms, and his experience possesses a unique character independent of other direct influences.” 


Achievements and Awards

Awards

Bushnaq received a number of awards and honors, including: 

Silver Medal for Sculpture, 1972 , for the sculpture he participated in at the Fourth General Exhibition in Kuwait. 
Bronze Medal for Sculpture, for his participation in the first art exhibition of the Kuwait Teachers Association. 
Bronze Medal for Sculpture, 1974 , for his participation in the Fifth Exhibition in Kuwait. 
Second prize at the Sixth Kuwait Exhibition for Arab Fine Artists, for his participation with the statue “Resilience and Resistance.” 
Second prize at the Seventh Kuwait Exhibition for Arab Fine Artists, for his participation in the painting “The Scream.” 
Third Prize for Drawing at the Alexandria Biennale , 1984.
