Abbas Shiblaq (born 6 January 1944) is a Palestinian academic, historian, and Research Associate at the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) at the University of Oxford (a position he has held since 1992). He specializes in refugee-host state relations and international humanitarian law. Over the past few years, he has been working on a research paper on the issue of statelessness in the Arab region. He founded the Shaml Centre for Palestinian Refugees and Expatriates in Ramallah , and was its first director. He was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the peace talks on the "Refugee Working Group".
Personal life
Abbas Shiblaq was born in Palestine on 6 January 1944. After completing his studies in Jordan, his university education in Egypt and his work in Lebanon , he moved to the UK in 1975 where he completed his postgraduate studies in international relations. He then pursued a career in freelance journalism and diplomacy, developing an interest in refugee and stateless communities, and is regularly consulted by international governmental organisations, NGOs, immigration agencies, law firms, academic institutions and the media to provide advice and comment on refugee and stateless affairs . He currently resides in the UK .
