Abdul Latif Mahmoud Al-Barghouti is a Palestinian educator and academic, born in the village of Kafr Ein, north of Ramallah, on 4/9/1928.  He studied at the Kuttab of the village of Kafr Ein, then at the Deir Ghassaneh School for Boys, and then at the Rashidieh College in Jerusalem , where he graduated and worked as a teacher without interrupting his university studies, obtaining a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate from the University of London . He obtained a doctorate for his research on “Folk Arabic Songs in Palestine and Jordan.”

Al-Barghouthi worked as a teacher in primary, preparatory and secondary schools and as a principal of Bani Zaid Secondary School until 1956 when he worked as an inspector for the International Relief Agency, then as a teacher at the Teachers' Institute in Benghazi , Libya . He later worked as a teacher and then as a senior teacher at the Agency's Teachers' Institute in Ramallah, then as Director of the Teachers' Training Department at the Agency's headquarters in Jerusalem, and then as an expert seconded by UNESCO to the Libyan University in Tripoli, where he contributed to the establishment of the College of Education there (1967-1974). UNESCO then sent him on a similar mission for a year to Bahrain to develop teachers' institutes there.

He returned to the country and worked at Birzeit University as a professor of Arabic language and literature, and head of its department until 1980, when the university loaned him to UNESCO for two years, during which he worked as a coordinator for a team of Arab UNESCO experts to develop education in the United Arab Emirates . After completing that mission, he returned to Birzeit University as Vice President for Academic Affairs. After his service at Birzeit University ended, he worked for two years at Al-Quds University as an advisor to its president.

He has published research in various fields, including the Heritage and Society Magazine of the Family Revival Society in the city of Al-Bireh , Palestine, the Aswar Magazine published in the city of Acre , the Kuwaiti World of Thought Magazine , and others. He has published twenty-five books on history, heritage, education, and literature, and has participated in many scientific conferences in the Arab world and the United States of America.

He was also a member of the Palestinian Writers Union , a member of the Palestinian branch of the International PEN Association, head of the Palestinian Folklorists Association, a member and head of the Palestinian Folklore Heritage Center at the Family Revival Association, and contributed to the establishment of folklore festivals before and after the occupation. He was a member of the American Folklore Association, a founding member of the Palestinian Arabic Language Academy, and a member of other institutions. Al-Barghouti was one of the most prominent pioneers in the field of Palestinian folklore, especially folk literature. He also participated in the most prominent intellectual, literary, and heritage activities inside and outside Palestine, such that it is difficult to list these activities.

Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Barghouthi passed away on 05/07/2002.
