Marouf Rafiq Sheikh Mahmoud (November 20, 1935 - May 9, 2005) was a Palestinian poet. He was born in Anabta . He studied in Tulkarm , then in Beirut, where he obtained a law degree from the Arab League there in 1968. He worked in education in Palestine, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, then in the State of Qatar, where he founded the Educational Media Department and the Public Relations Department in the Ministry of Interior. Then he devoted himself to working as a cultural advisor to Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani. In recognition of his efforts, the Qatari government granted him citizenship in 1989. He has many poetry collections. His uncle is Abdul Rahim Mahmoud , and his brother is Adeeb Rafiq Mahmoud . 

His biography 

Marouf Rafiq Sheikh Mahmoud was born on Shaaban 24, 1354/November 20, 1935 in Anabta , between Tulkarm and Nablus, Palestine, and grew up there. His father, Sheikh Rafiq Mahmoud, was a poet, orator, and teacher, and his grandfather, Sheikh Mahmoud, was an Azharite and a poet. His uncle is Abdul Rahim Mahmoud , and his brother is Adeeb Rafiq Mahmoud . Marouf Rafiq graduated from high school in Tulkarm in 1953, and a bachelor’s degree in law from Beirut Arab University in 1968. 

He worked as a teacher in his homeland in the school of his hometown of Anabta for one year, in Jordan, in Saudi Arabia in 1955, and in Qatar since 1961. He founded the Educational Media Department in the Qatari Ministry of Education, and the Public Relations Department in the Ministry of Interior, and worked full-time with Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani as an educational and cultural advisor to his children. . Marouf Rafiq also worked in journalism, as an editor for the Qatari Education magazine. In recognition of his efforts in security and cultural awareness programs in Qatar, its government granted him citizenship in 1989. He joined the International Islamic Literature Association on March 15, 2001. 
Marouf Rafiq died on Rabi’ al-Akhir 1, 1426/May 9, 2005 in Doha.

His awards and honors 

1964: Scout Anthem Award from the Ministry of Education in the Government of Qatar.
A certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Information (Qatar Radio), the Qatari Ministry of Interior, the Qatari Al Jasra Cultural Club, and the Doha Youth Center.
1979: Gold Medal of the Muhammad Iqbal Award.
