Salma Al-Dabbagh, a British-Palestinian writer, born in 1970. She became famous in 2011 after the publication of her novel “Out of Gaza” published by Bloomberry, which is a novel centered on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This novel was nominated for the “Guardian Book of the Year” award in 2011 and 2012. .

About her life and work
Salma was born in Scotland, her father is Palestinian from Jaffa and her mother is English. She is now free to write. She spent long periods of her life between Kuwait, France, Egypt, and Bahrain, and made annual visits to Palestine. Before focusing on writing, she worked as a lawyer specializing in human rights in London. During that time, she made frequent visits to the West Bank and Cairo. Since 2004, she wrote short stories that she published in “New Writing 15” and “Story: Short Stories from a Palestinian Woman.”

Her works
Her short stories have been published in anthologies published by the Granta Collection and International PEN. Her works have been nominated for a number of awards, and she reached the final round for the Short Fish Story Prize in “Beirut-Paris-Beirut” (2005) and “Aubergine” (2004). In 2014, her radio play “The Brick” was broadcast on the BBC.

Her novel “Out of Gaza” was published in 2011, and its Arabic translation was published under the title “Gaza Under the Skin” in 2015 by Bloomsbury - Qatar Foundation Publishing. It is a novel that depicts current family life in Gaza, transporting the reader from Palestine to London and then to the Gulf. The British newspaper The Observer noted about the novel: “It is a striking and attractive work that talks about uprooting and belonging, betrayal, treachery, loyalty, and the courage that redefines Palestine and its people.” I collaborated with some filmmakers to write feature films, and these works were translated into Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, and Italian.
