Information

Nasri Al-Jawzi (1908-1996), a Palestinian playwright, was born in Jerusalem. He received his primary education at Bishop St. George School. In 1935, he obtained a diploma in journalism from London. He returned to Jerusalem to work in the teaching profession until 1948. After the Nakba, he immigrated to Damascus, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, and died there on August 17, 1996. He was awarded the Jerusalem Medal for Culture and Arts in 1990.

Al-Jawzi contributed to many works and was active in establishing clubs and theater groups, including:

He contributed to establishing the Arab Sports Club in Jerusalem
He founded the Arts and Acting Association in 1928.
He founded the Al-Jawzi acting troupe in 1936.
He edited the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate magazine in Jerusalem, which is a magazine concerned with literature and history.
He was a teacher of Arabic and English in Syrian schools until 1954.
Head of the Translation Department and supervised the publications of the American Information Office during the period (1956 - 1967).
