Information

Amera Zayan (born 1977) is a photographer who lives and works in Yarka, Upper Galilee.

Her artistic career
At the beginning of her career, Amira Zayan studied industrial chemistry at the Western Galilee College in Akko. She had never worked in the field, and chance led her to work in a photography studio owned by a family member, and she found her passion in photography. Following her technical experience in a photography studio, Zayan joined the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Haifa and graduated in 2010. She obtained a Master’s degree in Arts from the University of Haifa in 2012.

Her works
Directional photography dominates most of her work. Her works address details in the lives of Druze women in general, and contemporary daily women’s practices in their surroundings in the Druze village. Through her photographs, she conveys stories inspired by the women of her village. Her works frequently engage with issues of gender identity in a traditional Druze community and review patterns through the design of representations in her images. She incorporates into the topics of her works details from her personal life as a woman, and a Druze woman in particular who grew up in a family with many children.
