Samia Taqtak Al-Zaro is a Jordanian visual artist of Palestinian origin. She was born in Nablus , Palestine in 1938. Her artistic style is characterized by her dealing with various metals in multiple artistic methods. She is one of the founders and developers of the Jordanian Fine Arts Movement. She also held the position of President of the Jordanian Fine Arts Association for a period of time and is a founding member of the Jordanian National Museum of Fine Arts . [1] [2]
Its upbringing and studies
Samia Taqtak Zarro was born in Nablus, Palestine and spent part of her childhood there. I studied at an evangelical school. Her father was an inspector of pharmacies throughout Palestine and Jordan, which allowed her to visit and learn about many areas in Palestine and Jordan, such as Tulkarm , Jenin , Bethlehem , Jerusalem and Amman .
The family moved from Nablus to Ramallah in 1948 following a car accident in which her older brother died. In Ramallah, her father founded a pharmacy, and Samia enrolled in the Friends School there. Obtaining a university scholarship to study fine arts changed the course of her life. She was preparing herself to study medicine, so she studied sculpture and drawing at the American University of Beirut.She finished her university studies in 1957. Then she studied at Corcoran Academy in Washington, in 1961. From her family environment, she gained experimental scientific logic, discipline, and a creative streak. [3]
Her professional biography
Samia Taqtak Al-Zaro is distinguished by her art by dealing with shaping and design materials in colors and multiple environmental materials such as iron, bronze, and aluminum, and in multiple artistic methods and techniques. It is considered a pioneer in using the method of complex building formations on areas of up to 1,000 square metres.
She has huge murals and multiple sculptures using various metals, such as the historic corridor in Al-Hussein Gardens in the city of Amman, commissioned by the Greater Amman Municipality in 2000. She has participated in art exhibitions in the Arab world, Europe, America, and Asia, and has won many international awards and certificates of appreciation for her participation.
She is a lecturer in arts at a number of universities in Jordan, Arab countries, and the world. She was accredited as a consultant to the UNESCO Seventh World Committee of Experts, in building visual arts curricula and artistic training programs for schools and universities and developing them in a way that suits local requirements and Arab culture. She also contributed, as an expert, to the success of the European Union project for understanding and dialogue among civilizations.
Her works are displayed in a number of the most prominent museums in the world, including: the Jordanian National Museum , the Women’s Museum in Washington, the Vatican Museum in Rome, the Simi Valley Museum in California, the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the Museum of Modern Iraqi Art, and in many exhibitions around the world.
