His most prominent works
He published a collection of poetry in 2008 , entitled Instructions Inside, and he appeared in an interview with the cultural channel affiliated with the Saudi government television. He represented Saudi Arabia in one of the international cultural exhibitions in Venice, Italy , and he was the assistant secretary of the Saudi pavilion at the exhibition.
His arrest and trial
He was arrested for the first time in August 2013 on charges of atheism and blasphemy after a complaint was submitted by a person to the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice , but he was released after only one day. He was arrested again from a café in the city of Abha in January 2014 on charges of insulting God and spreading atheistic ideas in the country.
His poetry collection, Instructions Inside, issued in 2008. In April 2014 , the court sentenced him to 4 years in prison and 800 lashes. On appeal, the General Court in Abha sentenced him on November 17 , 2015 to death on charges of apostasy , and on February 2 , 2016 .The previous sentence was canceled and reduced to 8 years in prison and 800 lashes, amid objection from lawyer Abdul Rahman Al-Lahem , who demanded the immediate release of his client, Ashraf Fayyad.
