Palestinian Wissam Nassar: I followed the Hamdan Award for Photography with passion and had the honor of winning third place in the Hope Axis
It was not the first time that Wissam Nassar participated in the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Photography Award. It was the second participation in the competition in its eighth session, “Hope,” in which he won third place in the “Hope” axis and had the honor of being honored by the Emirati Minister of Health. Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad Al Owais.

Wissam, the Palestinian photographer who has won more than 20 international awards around the world, says that the last award he won was the Hamdan Award in the “Hope” category, adding that he did not have sufficient experience and information about the method of this award, but he was following it with passion and following the winning photos, trying to understand The model the award is working on, the fields it follows, and the axes it focuses on.
Wissam explains that the Hamdan Award for Photography was developing from one session to another and was improving professionally and organizationally, as well as the method of the judges, which he considers very important. This was clearly demonstrated in the new categories and themes they added in that session, stressing that we will be surprised by other new things in the coming years.

Palestinian photographer Wissam Nassar believes that the photographer usually needs a keeper to take the picture at the right moment, but the situation in the Palestinian territories is different, as it is a reality that imposes itself as a painful and bitter reality. For 15 years, I have been photographing in the Palestinian territories and the Middle East. For example, Gaza has been subjected to three fierce wars. Destroyed by Israel in the last war this year. More than 12 thousand homes were completely destroyed. Thousands of martyrs. Entire families were destroyed. The topic here does not need an incentive for the picture. There is a bitter, painful reality, and there is a humanitarian and national issue. You have a moral and ethical commitment towards your homeland and towards the sons of the Palestinian people that forces you to capture The pictures convey the message to the world, especially since most of my work is with international organizations and agencies, and therefore you have a greater responsibility to influence foreign public opinion, not Arab public opinion. The Arab world certainly believes in the Palestinian issue and does not need anyone to remind it of the importance of the Palestinian issue.
Wissam Nassar confirms that a picture is worth thousands of words, as it can change reality, but perhaps changing reality was not the result of the moment, but rather publishing repeatedly and reminding the world that the day will come and change reality. There is a group of pictures that will remain and will continue to remind people.

Regarding the Arab entries in the Hamdan Photography Award, Wissam points out that this year there are 6 Arabs who won the competition, and this is a pride for all of us and a very great achievement. Most importantly, 3 Palestinian photographers, which is an honor for Palestine, which confirms that it is always present with God’s grace.

Regarding what is new in store for the Palestinian photographer, he says: I am in the process of launching the first international book that talks about my 15-year experience, which includes my winning photos and my works that have spread around the world, and most importantly, launching the first photojournalism academy in the Palestinian territories in order to educate Palestinian children and talents who want to serve the Palestinian and insured cause. With new work in the future, I consider it a source of pride for me to be a part of contributing and helping to adopt these children. The Palestinian cause needs the mobilization of armies of journalists to convey the image to the whole world.
