Information

The writer Rawaa Sonbol, who limited her productions to short stories and for which she won many Arab awards, presents herself this time as a novelist through her first publication, “The Girl Who Carried Her House,” directed to children.

Throughout her novel, Rawaa starts from a basic idea and value, which is citizenship, but she seeks to present it in a gentle, indirect framework that is far from theorizing.

What prompted the wonderful writing of this novel was what she heard from many children who began pinning their dreams and ambitions on the idea of travel and migration, influenced by what they heard from adults. Therefore, she wanted to renew in them the value of home and preserve it in a way that relied on suspense and imagination as two important elements in children’s literature.

The author confirms that she was inspired by many of the details of the novel from the dreams and obsessions of her two daughters, who were with her moment by moment, so they drew the characters in colors and made them from craft paper. They objected to details and suggested others.

Rawa'a, who has published a collection of short stories for children and a story directed at early childhood, confirms that everything she writes in this literary genre is the result of something similar to a joint workshop with her two children. Therefore, we find that little girls are the heroines of most of her works.

It is noteworthy that the novel is published by Dar Thimaa for Printing, Publishing and Distribution. As for the writer, Rawaa Sonbol, she is a pharmacist born in 1979. She writes short stories, theatrical scripts, and children’s literature. She publishes stories and articles in a number of Arab newspapers and periodicals. She has published six works, including the collection “Hunter of Tongues” and a theatrical script entitled “Nests,” and she won five awards. Arab, including the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity, short story category, and the Arab Theater Authority Award.
