Information

Creativity is not linked to a specific age. Celia Rami Rashid (10 years old), a Palestinian girl from the village of Alma, Safad district, lives with her family in the city of Sidon (southern Lebanon). She has many hobbies, but she has loved drawing since she was four years old. She has developed herself and aspires to be a visual artist. .

The child, Celia, tells Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed: “I have loved drawing since I was young, and my mother encouraged me to learn the drawing technique, and I joined an education center supervised by the visual artist Nisreen Shabib, who began teaching me the drawing technique and mixing colors.”

Her hobbies are many, including swimming and gymnastics, but she is more interested in drawing because of her great imagination. She usually contemplates what her eyes see and draws it. She considers drawing to have a deep meaning, and encourages children to learn it.

Celia points out that her first drawing was a colorful butterfly, and although she loves the color blue, she also loves drawing nature, because it contains the colors that she loves, and she considers nature a symbol of freedom.

Despite her love for drawing landscapes, she loves drawings related to Palestine, and says: “I love to draw the Palestinian flag, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Dome of the Rock, because I love my homeland, Palestine, and I hope that we will return to our homeland. My last painting was the face of a sad Palestinian woman wearing a keffiyeh with A picture of the Dome of the Rock, which I participated in an exhibition held on the occasion of the Nakba Remembrance.

She confirms that she wants to participate in art exhibitions to display her paintings about Palestine, noting that she will paint about Lebanon. She has begun learning to draw portraits, and when she masters it, she will paint a picture of her mother. She considers drawing a part of her life, and will grow with her as she grows older.

Visual artist Nisreen Shabib has owned a drawing center for five years. She says: “Celia is a talented child and was able, in two months, to learn basic drawing techniques, especially since she has a quick wit.”

She adds: “The center receives different age groups, especially children who have a love and passion for drawing, and my role here is to teach the basics and types of drawing and how to draw with a brush, by hand, and even with wood, the most important of which is how to use and mix colors.”

She points out that she has been working as a fine arts teacher in schools for twenty years, so she has experience in dealing with children and how to teach them the correct drawing technique, because there are many children who love drawing, but they need someone to guide them and teach them the correct way so that the talent is honed in the desired way.
