Palestinian refugee Salam Ali Rahma, born in 1995, was able to write her book on mental arithmetic for the third level, which is a program to teach children the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of large numbers in a short time until the child becomes faster than a calculator.

Salam, who left the Yarmouk camp with the intensification of the conflict in Syria, headed to Europe by sea and was exposed to many difficulties and risks during her refugee journey that finally landed her in the Netherlands. She was able to integrate quickly, learned the Dutch language, and joined the Mathematics Department at the Dutch University of Leiden. She is an Arab student. The only one in this section.

Salam says, “I had wanted to learn mental arithmetic for a long time, but the circumstances were not helping me, and with the spread of the Corona virus and the imposition of home quarantine, I was able to invest a long time in learning mental arithmetic and even became a teacher in it later.”

Salam continues, “I received mental arithmetic instruction from more than one trainer, and I took course after course and, thanks to God, I was able to combine their methods until I was able to create my own style, after which I launched a free course for children remotely as a gift on the occasion of the opening of my club, which I called “Little Einstein Mind.” “Math Club,” and in order for people to get to know this new type in the Netherlands, where the prevailing belief was that mental arithmetic was teaching mathematics that everyone learns in school, I expected to receive 20 students, but 24 hours after the announcement that I placed on the Internet, I was surprised by 170 registration requests. I felt at the time The challenge became great, especially since it was my first experience with distance training with 170 students and the date of my university exams was approaching, so I divided the students into groups to facilitate the process of communicating with them and to receive information faster.”

Regarding the results of the course and the reason for writing the book, Salam says, “The courses achieved amazing results and a group of students moved to the second and then the third level. I wrote the book as a reaction to my having used a book for mental arithmetic, but it was not enough. Sometimes I resorted to the Internet to collect the exercises that I tested.” students there.”

Salam concludes, “This book will be an introduction to a series of books, and I will work to complete the rest of the series, which will extend to 8 different levels, God willing.”

Many Palestinian-Syrian elites, academics, and graduates of institutes and universities are trying to make their way in diaspora countries after fleeing the war in Syria, and they have recorded many successes in various fields since their arrival in European countries.
