Muhammad Ali al-Taher (whose nickname is Abu al-Hasan ) is a Palestinian writer and journalist . He was born in Nablus in 1896, and received his basic education there. He worked as a journalist in more than one newspaper, including the Arab Boy newspaper, which was published in Jaffa , and the Southern Syria newspaper, which was published in Jerusalem . 

Al-Taher took charge of the Directorate of Telegraph and Post in the city of Nablus , then moved to Cairo in 1920. Al-Taher was one of the first journalists to warn of the intention of the British Mandate to establish a Jewish state in Palestine . Al-Taher died in Beirut in 1974.

Al-Shura newspaper

Al-Taher founded Al-Shura newspaper in 1924, which was published weekly in Cairo . Al-Shura newspaper is considered one of the most famous Arab newspapers that were published at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is a political newspaper that discusses the affairs of Palestine , Syria , Lebanon and Transjordan . Because of the newspaper's policies, it was prevented from being published in Arab countries. After that, the Egyptian authorities withdrew the newspaper's license in 1931, and after that Al-Taher was forced to cancel the publication of the newspaper.

Al-Taher was arrested 4 times, and most of the reasons for his arrest were due to his anti-colonial journalistic views. He was arrested for the first time for two years in Giza detention center in 1915, the second time was in 1925, and the third time was in 1940, and Al-Taher managed to escape, until an amnesty was issued by the Ministry of Al-Nahhas Pasha, and the last time was in 1949 in the famous Hakstep prison in Cairo.

his death

He died in 1974 in Beirut and was buried in the martyrs' cemetery in a Palestinian military funeral attended by Lebanese and Arab officials, and the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Yasser Arafat . [4]

Honors 

Al-Taher was awarded several decorations, including the Jerusalem Medal for Culture, Arts and Literature in 1990 by the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1990. The Tunisian Independence Medal, and the Moroccan Throne Medal.
