Majed Al-Zeer

An activist and specialist in Palestinian refugee affairs

Introduction by: Yasser Ahmed Ali

I am probably one of those who followed Majed Al-Zeer’s writings and articles, by virtue of our professional relationship, in Al-Awda magazine, where he wrote the bulk of his articles. And by virtue of the friendship that preceded the work in the magazine and extended after it in the Palestinian national work, conferences and various events.

The writer, as I knew him, is lively, active, restless, a hive of movement, speaking effectively as he moves, and writes as he speaks, flowing thoughts that sometimes he does not sit down to create ideas and arrange them, but they come to confirm his movement and his words. And from my experience with his writings, I had to play his role to edit some texts, so I needed to imagine his body language while he was saying or writing, as he moved between ideas quickly and briefly.

He is, then, the organic intellectual who observes, follows, interacts, implements, and leads on the ground, and then writing comes as a foregone conclusion, if his time permits.

He did not write about the siege of Gaza from afar, but rather visited it and then wrote about it.

He did not write about the tragedy of the Palestinians of Iraq from his office in London, but rather visited their border camps more than once, especially in Al-Tanf camp.

He did not write about the Palestinians of Lebanon from Europe, but rather visited them as part of European parliamentary delegations, and toured their camps and was briefed on their conditions.

The same applies to the Palestinians of Syria, where he played an important role in finding relief and media solutions and arranging their legal status. He visited them and met them in the countries of their painful diaspora, which was a feature of recent years.

He did not write about the conferences just because he attended them, but rather had an idea share in launching them and a big hand in organizing them.

The list goes on and on and there is no space to talk about it all.

In addition to the fact that the writer's articles covered an important geographical area, they also covered an important period in the history of our case, and pivotal issues whose effectiveness has not ended to this day. It is true that some of them were written a decade or two ago, but their value is still continuing until now, and I expect their value to remain. As a documented experience for the future.

Through this accompaniment to his articles, and in view of what I mentioned above, the importance of collecting these articles emerges, as they actually cover multiple aspects of the Palestinian cause, through the political view of one of the Palestinian national action men who are well versed in popular work in the fields of defense of the right of return, Palestinian rights, and the Palestinian popular movement. The world led by the Palestinians of Europe. Stemming from an experience spanning over a quarter of a century of this activity and dynamism.
