Faisal “Muhammad Rashad” Salman
Hourani (born on March 23, 1939 in Al-Masmiya Al-Saghira - died on May 12, 2022
in Geneva), a Palestinian writer and journalist who worked in the media of the
Palestine Liberation Organization and headed its studies department. He has
several published literary and political works dealing with the history of the

His upbringing and education
He was born in 1939 in the small
village of Al-Masmiya in the Gaza district. As a result of the 1948 war, he
sought refuge with his family in the Gaza Strip. Then the family moved to
Damascus, where he received his school education and worked as a teacher. He
graduated from Damascus University in 1964 with a degree in philosophy,
sociology and psychology. .
His political and journalistic
activities
He lived for a year in Algeria,
where he worked in the press, then returned in 1965 to Damascus and worked as
an editor in Al-Baath newspaper, and wrote programs for the Syrian radio and
television. In 1962 he joined the Arab Socialist Baath Party and remained a
member of it until he was dismissed in 1968. However, he continued to work as
the editor-in-chief of “Al-Tala’i” magazine until 1970. He was also a member of
the editorial board of “Voice of Palestine” magazine.
During the years 1977 and 1978, he
held the position of Deputy Representative of the Palestine Liberation
Organization in Moscow, then returned to Damascus, where he headed the
Department of Information and Public Relations in the Political Department of
the Palestine Liberation Organization. In 1979, he worked at the Research
Center in Beirut, where he later assumed the editor-in-chief of its periodical,
“Palestinian Affairs.” After the 1982 war, he moved with the center’s staff to
Nicosia in Cyprus.
He represented the Palestinian
Writers Union in the Palestinian National Council that was held in Amman in
1984, and in 1988 he was appointed as a member of the Palestinian National
Council.
In 1989 he moved to Vienna, and in
1995 he returned to the areas of the National Authority in Palestine, where he
resided partially.

Awards and honors
In December 2004, the Palestinian
Ministry of Culture awarded him the Palestinian Biographical Award for his
autobiography, Paths of Exile, which was published in several parts from 1994
to 2004.
