Maryam Barghouti is a
Palestinian-American writer, blogger, researcher, activist, commentator, and
journalist, who hails from Ramallah. Maryam worked as a journalist and reporter
specializing in issues related to the Levant, and published many social and
political reports from Palestine.

Maryam Barghouti holds a BA in
English Language and Literature from Birzeit University. In April 2014, Maryam,
who was 20 years old at the time, was arrested during her participation in a
peaceful march against the Israeli occupation policies in the village of Nabi
Saleh, near Ramallah, and she was transferred to the Al-Jalama interrogation
center. She was released afterwards. Barghouti holds an MA in Sociology and
Global Change from the University of Edinburgh.
Al-Barghouti has carried out
monitoring and evaluation tasks for humanitarian and development aid in
countries such as Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon for various governmental and
non-governmental organizations.
Her political commentary and
research work appears notably in Al Jazeera English, The Guardian, BBC,

Al-Barghouti is also a prominent
activist in defending the rights of the Palestinian people through novels and
stories, and her activism has increased global awareness of the harsh realities
and experiences faced by Palestinians under Israeli control. During the 2021

oppressive stance toward Palestine through her civil activism. Maryam

restrictions on Maryam's official Twitter account, which was covering protests
in the West Bank during the 2021 Israeli-Palestinian clashes. During the
temporary restriction, each tweet from the journalist was replaced with the
following message, "Mariam Barghouti's account is temporarily unavailable
because it violates media policy." Twitter". Al-Barghouti said that
Twitter asked her to delete some of her tweets. The company later said that the
account restriction was due to a mistake. Al-Barghouti considered that the
issue is not in suspending her account, "but rather in imposing general
censorship on Palestinian accounts, especially in the past few weeks while
