Marwan Nazih Makhoul, Palestinian poet (born July 2, 1979). He was born in the town of Peki'a in the Upper Galilee to a Palestinian father and a Lebanese mother, and lives in the town of his origin.

Among his poems: An Arab at Ben Gurion Airport, which was published in the early months of 2012 and translated into Hebrew, and an evening poem. A number of his poems have been translated into English, French and Hebrew, including: Arabic at Ben Gurion Airport, which was published in the first months of 2012, Evening Poem, Poem on the Tel Aviv Train, Hello Beit Hanoun, and the poem Portrait of the Gaza Strip.

He published many literary and poetic collections in several editions.

Scientific and practical life
Preparatory stage: He studied at Al-Baqi'a School (1992-1994).

• Secondary level: He studied at Tarshiha Comprehensive School (1995-1997).

• Graduate studies: He studied civil engineering at the College of the Future (1998-2001).

He works as an engineer and manager of a company that implements construction projects for public institutions (2002-present).

He publishes some of his poems in various Arab periodicals and newspapers, including: Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper (London), Al-Ayyam, Kol Al-Arab wa Al-Ittihad (Palestine), An-Nahar (Lebanon), Al-Ghawon magazine (United States), Nizwa magazine (Oman) and Risalat Al-Sha’er magazine.

Makhoul participates annually in international poetry festivals, and in his own poetry evenings, locally and internationally.

Some of his works have been transformed into distinguished lyrical and documentary works, and some of them have been employed in theatrical and artistic works. For example, his poem “The Image of the Gazans” turned into a work of art in the field of scenography and shadow imagination, which was staged by the Palestinian director residing in Germany, Dr. Dalal Makari, represented on stage by Arab artists from Palestine, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

He lectures in the field of creative writing as part of the “Big Artists with Young Artists” project, which is a traveling project to nurture young talents across the country.

He revived his poetry evening, “Long Live the Country, the Country Dies,” which was attended by thousands of spectators on the stage of most theaters in Palestinian cities. As a result, he won the title of “the most prominent literary figure in the country for the year 2011” with the poet Samih Al-Qasim in the public opinion poll of the Palestinian press.

He participates in the artistic program of the Palestinian national and Qatari events, such as Land Day and the Festival of Return.

Achievements and Awards

• As part of the Kol Al-Arab newspaper competition for young talents, he won the "Young Writer" award in 1997.

• In 2004, he received a sabbatical grant to participate in a literary translation workshop from the Helikon Poetry Association, through which selected of his poems were translated.

• In 2006 (after the first prize was withheld) as part of the Abdul Mohsen Qattan Foundation Prize in Ramallah, he received a recommendation for his poetry collection “The Narcissus Hunter” (which has not been published yet).

• In 2006, the documentary film “The Bride of Galilee”, whose poem “The Bride of Galilee” formed the basis for it, won the second prize of the International Documentary Film Festival in Haifa.

• For his first theatrical work, "Not Noah's Ark," he won the "Best Playwright" award in 2009 at the Theater Festival in Acre.

• In 2009, under the supervision of the Palestinian Writers Network, and within the celebration of Jerusalem, the Capital of Arab Culture, his first collection of poetry, "The Land of the Sad Passiflora," won the award for "Best Poetry Collections of Palestinian Poets All Over the World."
