Salha Hamdeen is a Palestinian writer from the Jahalin Bedouin tribe. She lives in the West Bank.

 

In 2012, when she was 14 years old, her story Hantoush won the Hans Christian Andersen Prize.

personal life

Hamdeen belongs to the Jahalin Bedouins who live in Wadi Abu Hindi in Area C of the West Bank. She is the daughter of Solomon, a prisoner in Israel.

 

her writings

In 2012, when Hamdeen was 14 years old, she wrote Hantoush, the story of a girl named Saleha who lives in the occupied West Bank and whose family home is demolished by a military bulldozer. Salha asks her pet lamb, Hantoush, to take her away from Palestine. Pregnancy takes Salha to Spain where she meets soccer player Lionel Messi. The story won the Hans Christian Andersen Prize competition.

 

The story was written after receiving encouragement from a workshop presented by the Italian organization Vento di Terra and the Tamer Institute for Community Education.
