Information
Osama Eid Hajjaj, Jordanian cartoonist, born in Amman in 1973.
He worked in several Jordanian daily newspapers, such as the Jordanian newspaper Al-Dustour, the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rai, and weekly newspapers such as Al-Bilad and Al-Wisaa newspaper, and he worked in the Emirati newspaper Al-Ittihad. He currently works for the Jordanian newspaper Al Arab Al Youm. He also publishes his drawings on several Arab and international sites such as cagle and cartoonmovement.
Osama Hajjaj is considered the first cartoonist to be imprisoned in Jordan, on the background of a cartoon published by him in the weekly Al-Bilad newspaper in 1995, and it was about the Muslim Brotherhood and another about the Speaker of Parliament at the time, Saad Hayel Al-Surour. Hajjaj's drawings deal with people's social life and the issues that occupy Jordanian society, especially those that focus on the youth group, through the characters "Atta" and "Atwa". It also publishes graphics dealing with the political situation in the Middle East and the world.
Although he did not complete university studies, Osama was one of the first to learn caricature using a computer in 1996, after the emergence of the wacom tablet and Corel Painter, and it is noteworthy that he adopted black and white drawing using Chinese ink pens before that.
Beginnings and evolution
His first caricature was published in a small weekly newspaper called “The Woman’s Gazette” in 1992, then he worked as a main cartoonist in the weekly newspaper Al-Bilad in the year 1993 through the “Lojia riot” page of the satirical writer Youssef Ghishan, as well as a contemporary of the satirical writer Mohamed Tamlia in the same newspaper. He was also close to the Egyptian artist Mohie El-Din El-Labbad in 2004 and wrote about his talent in the book "Contemplation 4".
Some of his drawings spread and became world famous, the most important of which is the drawing "the world as we know", which is still circulating worldwide until now.
It is noteworthy that Jordan Post issued a set of postage stamps entitled "Cartooning" in 2013, in which the characters "Atta and Atwa" by the artist Osama were chosen on 3 out of 6 stamps, and the characters of the artist Imad Hajjaj were chosen on 3 stamps.
