Patrick Lama, the son of the organist, composer and teacher Augustine Lama (often referred to as the Father of Palestinian Music), studied composition with Henri Dutilleux and conducting with Pierre Dervaux in Paris. Active as a concert pianist as well as composer, Patrick has written many solo piano works which he has performed across Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East and in the USA.
He has set many texts from Arab poets for singers including the Iraqi poets Shaker Assayyabe, Chawki Abdelamir, the Syrian poet Adonis and the Palestinian Mahmoud Darwich.
With many compositions for voice with piano or instrumental ensemble, in 1998, Patrick completed his opera “Kan’aan”, which was one of the very first operas to be written in the Arabic language. This was premiered in Germany in 2000 and broadcast by Radio Berlin.
