Rabah Ahmed Al-Sagheer , a late Jordanian cartoonist and art critic of Palestinian origins , is considered a pioneer of Jordanian cartoon art and one of the pioneers of Arab cartoon art, in addition to being one of the distinguished critics of fine art.
Born in the Palestinian village of Al-Faluja in 1937 , he began his career as a cartoonist in the 1960s. He worked for several newspapers, including Al-Manar and Al-Difaa, before being forced to leave Palestine after being pursued by Israeli forces on charges of resisting the occupation. He eventually settled in Amman and worked for the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rai.
His works were characterized by harsh criticism of Arab regimes and American hegemony over the Arab region, which often led to the banning of his cartoons, in addition to his personal being banned from entering a number of countries.
He was posthumously honored with numerous medals and awards, including the Jordanian State Appreciation Award from the Jordanian monarch, King Hussein bin Talal , and the Jerusalem Medal from Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, in addition to a number of other awards and honors.
Artist Rabah Al Sagheer died in 1989 at the age of 52.
