Information

Dunya Al-Amal Ismail is a Palestinian writer and poet .  She is also active in the field of women, human rights and media, and works as the director of the Creative Women's Association in the Gaza Strip .  It is noteworthy that a number of her works have been translated into different languages. The poet and thinker Hussein Al-Barghouthi (1954-2002) says about her that "Dunya Al-Amal Ismail is a special and unique Palestinian case in the sky of the image, leaning on the power of the moment." 

Her biography

Dunya Al-Amal Ismail Hassouna studied secondary school at Al-Arish Girls School, after her family was deported from Gaza by order of the Israeli army to there in 1981. Dunya was also active during the first Palestinian Intifada . She completed her BA in Arabic Literature in Egypt and obtained a Master's degree in Political Science from Al-Azhar University in Gaza . She had worked as a journalist for Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and Al-Ayyam newspapers . 

Her writings

Dunia published her first book, “I Saw in Gaza,”  and she also published three poetry collections: “Each Separately” (1996), “The Ringing of Isolation” (1999), and “Not Him” (2010).  These collections were translated into Japanese, Spanish , and Italian . In 2014, she participated in writing the book “Arab Women from Violence and Discrimination to Political Participation,” published by the Center for Arab Unity Studies .  She also won the Mediterranean Women’s Forum Award in France for her story, “My Mother and the Olive Tree,” but she was unable to receive the award due to the closure of the Rafah crossing . This story was translated into French.
