Information

Shadi Al-Zaqzouq (1981-) is a Palestinian visual artist born in Benghazi, Libya . He studied there and moved with his family to the Gaza Strip . He obtained a diploma in music from the Palestine Technical College . He has many works of art, the most prominent of which is the painting "After the Wash"  , which shows a veiled girl carrying the ruler's underwear, on which is written "Leave in solidarity with the Arab revolutions " , which caused him a special problem at " Art Dubai ", where his work was withdrawn from the exhibition. He won the Young Artist Award from the Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan Foundation in 2006. He is a founding member of the Shababik Art Group in the Gaza Strip.

His artistic style

His works constitute a firm stance in presenting his cause and artistic form through shocking and strongly present works that reflect an idea related to the developments of the Arab Spring revolution, and visually blend artistic and political opinion , and practice the style of the new realist school within a conceptual framework, blending realism and surrealism . After 2006, the artist used the "Muslim punk" style as a symbol to link the discordant elements in the work. His works adopt a policy of incitement, rebellion and panic, given his interest in issues related to exile, identity and movement, which are considered part of his life circumstances. His works open the discussion on the discourse of Islamophobia and the distorted image through the media , so he blended the concepts of Islamophobia and punk, in an interconnected relationship between liberation and isolation.
