Information

Tawfiq Al-Sayyid (1939-1996) is a Palestinian visual artist , born in the city of Safad . His family migrated to Jordan as a result of the Nakba . Tawfiq studied elementary and middle school at Khalid bin Al-Walid School in 1950. He continued his university education at the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Madrid , Spain , in 1965, graduating from the Department of Drawing and Photography . He then completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy, in the period between 1970-1979. He then returned to Jordan and worked as a cartoonist and editor for Al-Shorti Magazine in 1966. He also worked for Al-Dustour newspaper in 1967, in addition to working as an interior designer in Saudi Arabia in 1968. He died in Jordan in 1996. 

His artistic style

His paintings were academic in nature, with a school-like tendency connected to documentary realism at the beginning of his work, and most of his works were portraits. Then he turned to expressive realism with an influential symbolism, which is saturated with the national and human subject, so he drew and photographed the features of his plastic music filled with local Arab features and characters.
