Gaza - Ma'an Exclusive - Since birth, Muhammad Youssef Al-Dalu has suffered from a complete disability resulting from muscular atrophy. He has become confined to a wheelchair and has restrictions on movement.
Muhammad, who is twenty-seven years old, began to feel the talent for drawing from a young age, but in besieged Gaza he did not find anyone to guide him to the path towards professionalism, especially in light of his limited movement.
Muhammad tells Ma’an: “I have a talent for drawing, and I began developing it and taking an interest in it in 2011 via the Internet, and I gradually began to teach myself about myself through social networking sites, YouTube, or books.”
He confirms that he first started drawing with charcoal pencils, then turned to colors, and then turned to digital drawing.
Muhammad arrived at the Al-Mashtal Hotel today with a number of his companions at the invitation of the General Union of the Disabled to participate in an exhibition that tells about the 15-year siege on the Gaza Strip.
Muhammad suffered a share of the siege, stressing that because of this siege, he faced many difficulties that affected him as an artist.
He added: "Of course, the siege was the first reason that prevented my participation in foreign exhibitions. I was sent more than one invitation to participate in exhibitions outside Palestine. Because of the siege, I was prevented from traveling. The siege also prevented the entry of raw materials such as pens, colors, and feathers, especially in drawing."
He continues: "Of course, the siege is one of the reasons why our work is not of the required quality like that of international artists, through the use of original tools, most of which are local or traditional industry. He added:" Of course, the siege also had an impact on our psychological health by preventing us from traveling and going outside the Strip. ".
Muhammad hopes that the siege will end soon and that he will cross the borders of the Strip and meet inspiring artists.
