Egyptian statistics showed that the first Muslim to arrive in the Republic of Guatemala was a Palestinian named Suleiman Dahi in 1935.
The Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism indicated that in 1979, a large number of people from the Middle East immigrated to Guatemala and rented a place to hold prayers in a group.
The Observatory added in a report that since that time, Islam began to spread in Guatemala. Muslims there held the first Friday prayer at the Egyptian embassy in 1980. In 1994, the construction of the first mosque began through self-efforts, and it was called the Mezquita de Aldawa Mosque.
