Tariq Al-Ghoussein (January 17, 1962
- June 11, 2022) is a Kuwaiti plastic artist residing in the United Arab
Emirates of Palestinian origin. He is famous for his photographic works that
crystallized in the search for identity, and the relationship of the object to
the place, whether in its real or virtual dimensions.

Tariq Talaat Al-Ghoussein was born
in Kuwait on January 17, 1962 AD, where his father worked as a journalist,
editor and diplomat, and he had held the position of the first ambassador of
the State of Kuwait in Washington in the sixties of the twentieth century. His
family was killed a lot during his childhood between Kuwait, the United States
of America, Morocco and Japan. He holds a BA in Photography from New York
University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico.
He held many positions during his career in photography and teaching, and
worked as a professor of photography at the New York University Abu Dhabi
branch.

Al-Ghoussein's perception and
portrayal of his Palestinian identity remained constant in most of his artistic
directions, as a large part of his work deals with the issue of forming his
identity in the context of deprivation and loss, the deprivation of his return
to his homeland and the loss of Palestinian identity under the Israeli
occupation. Tariq’s works of art have been featured in various international
exhibitions and festivals, including the Venice Biennale, the Sharjah
International Biennial, and the Singapore Biennial, in addition to the presence
of his works in permanent collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum in
London, the Royal Museum of Photography in Copenhagen, the Arab Museum of
Modern Art in Doha, and the Arts Circle in Amman and Sharjah Art Foundation in
Sharjah.

Tariq Al-Ghussein died on June 11,
2022 AD, corresponding to Dhu al-Qi`dah 12, 1443 AH, at the age of 60, and his
death came in New York City.
