Dr. Abdul Karim Barghouti is the chairperson of and an assistant professor at the Department of philosophy and Cultural Studies-Birzeit University. He also teaches a course about “Fundamentalism and Globalization” at the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies. He also used to teach at different institutions, including Department of Humanities, Bethlehem University and Al-Tireh College. Between 2000-2002, Dr. Barghouti was Dean of Student Affairs, Birzeit University. Dr. Barghouti holds a PhD degree in Philosophy from Moscow State University-Russia and a Master’s in Laws (LLM) from the Russian Friendship University.
He has different interests, especially curriculum development of different courses at the university, especially in the fields of Democracy and Human Rights and Philosophy and Cultural Studies. In addition, during the academic year 2003-2004, the TTC appointed Dr. Barghouti as their expert and trainer in civic education and curriculum development.
Dr. Barghouti has various publications in different fields, including: “How Do We Read Edward Said?”- 2004, “Palestinian Cultural and Political Identity” -2004, “Islamic Fundamentalism and Globalization” -2004, “The Intellectual Indicators of the Society of Knowledge” – 2004, “The Political Indicators and Limitations of the Palestinian Constitution- 2004, “The Palestinian Constitution and the Fundamentals of Human Sustainable Development-2004, “A Reading in Palestinian Literature after 1967”- 1995, “Islamic Movements and Democracy”- 1995 and others.
