Information

Dr. Husni Fahmi Al-Masri was born in Nablus in 1935, where he grew up in a traditional Nablus environment that valued science and knowledge. He received his primary education at Al-Khalidiya School and Al-Salihiya School, then moved to An-Najah National College, where he completed his secondary education. He distinguished himself academically, ranking first in his class and among the top students in the Jordanian secondary school leaving examination (metrology) in 1958. He was honored among a select group of high-achieving students at an official ceremony held in Amman, in the presence of His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal – may God have mercy on him.
Dr. Hosni is considered one of the founding generation at An-Najah National University, as he was known as one of the oldest employees of the institution when it was still “An-Najah College”, and he accompanied its development from its early beginnings, and witnessed the stages of its transformation and rise to become one of the largest Palestinian universities.
He continued his university studies later, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws degree from Beirut Arab University/Alexandria University in 1977 with honors. An-Najah National University then sent him on an academic mission to the United States, where he earned a Master of Higher Education Administration degree with honors in 1981, followed by a PhD in the same field in 1983, also with honors.
Dr. Hosni Al-Masri held a number of prominent administrative and academic positions at An-Najah National University, most notably his work as Dean of the Faculty of Education and An-Najah National Community College between 1983 and 1992. He also had an active administrative role in the management of the university, as he served as Secretary of the Board of Deans of the College between 1971 and 1976.
During his academic career, he contributed to the supervision and scientific discussion of more than 42 master’s theses at An-Najah National University and Al-Quds/Abu Dis University. He also left his scientific mark through reference research and studies, most notably his important study on the philosophy of higher education in the occupied Palestinian territories, which was completed on commission from the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Dr. Hosni Al-Masri was active in the fields of education and society. He participated in the training of teachers in Palestinian public schools under occupation, with the support of the Palestine Liberation Organization. He also contributed to the First Palestinian Conference on Mental Health and Counseling in 2000, serving as a member of the advisory committee and chairing one of its sessions. Furthermore, he was active in civil society work through his membership in several educational and charitable organizations, including the Friends of the Patient Society, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, and the Association for the Deaf and Mute.
Dr. Hosni was distinguished by his media presence, having written important educational and social articles and participated in discussions on Palestinian radio and various local media outlets. In the later years of his life, he served on the Board of Trustees of Al-Rawda College for Professional Sciences in Nablus from 2010, and also held the position of Rapporteur of the Committee for Reviving and Developing the Heritage of An-Najah University from 2008, working to document the university's history and prominent figures.
Dr. Hosni Fahmy Al-Masri passed away on January 7, 2020, after a long and distinguished scientific and humanitarian career spanning decades, during which he was dedicated to serving his community, university, and country, leaving behind an academic and social legacy that will remain alive in the memory of Nablus and Palestine.
