An American academic and professor of Palestinian origin from Jerusalem, author of several books on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and an adjunct professor (emergency) of political science at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Aruri was elected for three consecutive terms to the board of directors of Amnesty International-USA, served on the board of directors of Human Rights Watch/Middle East 1990-1992, and was also a member of the board of directors of the International Criminal Investigation Institute (affiliated with the International Criminal Court) in The Hague.
