Dr. Abdul Nasser Ismail Rayyan is an Assistant Professor specializing in parasitology, with a particular research focus on vertebrate parasites, including those affecting humans. His academic interests span general biology, zoology, and parasitology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biology from Aristotle University in 2003, after earning both his Master's (1990) and Bachelor's degrees (1987) in Science from the University of Khartoum.
Dr. Rayyan has made notable contributions to the study of aquatic and vertebrate parasites, especially through his research on parasitic infections in cultured mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) in the Thermaikos Gulf, Greece. His scientific publications have appeared in reputable journals such as Diseases of Aquatic Organisms and the Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom.
In addition to his research, Dr. Rayyan has taught a wide range of university-level courses, including General Biology, Parasitology, Entomology, Human Biology, Vertebrates, and Public Health. He is also experienced in administrative roles, having served as Dean of Al-Aqsa Community College since 2020 and formerly as Head of the Biology Department at Al-Aqsa University during multiple terms.
Dr. Rayyan's work has been instrumental in expanding understanding of marine parasitology and zoonotic diseases, combining both academic rigor and practical relevance in public health and environmental biology.
